Magnetic Island Scarecrow Trail 2013
I have just returned to work after a very restful week spent on Magnetic Island - reading and catching some sun mostly - but while there the Bay Days Island Festival's annual Scarecrow Trail caught my eye. My favourites - The Girl on a Swing at Nelly Bay and the Wedding Couple at Horseshoe Bay as pictured above

INSPIRED INNOVATION AT CAIRNS STATE HIGH
Pictured with Liz Webb, second from left and students of Cairns State High
who invented the Wekker Alarm
The most creative invention went to Flippin' Footprints
It is wonderful to be able to give back to our FNQ community in terms of sharing expertise. In recent months I have been very fortunate to be a special guest at both Peace Lutheran College and Cairns State High School - introducing public relations and putting it into a marketing perspective.
After speaking to Cairns State High School's Year 9 Business Studies class about publicity and how it would help market their inventions at a trade expo, I was later honoured to be a judge at the 'trade show'. Wow, what an inspired and energetic group of young people - who really came up with the goods in terms of innovative products - the winner was an animal call app for visitors to the Far North. I think this one has integrity and the students went to great effort in terms of developing marketing collateral that was both attractive and informative. Their expo stand was a clear winner = themed like a rainforest with the creators dressed as animals. Flippin' Footprints also scored top marks for their efforts. Well done all!

What A Wonderful World Cairns Is
HERB ARMSTRONG HITS THE HIGH NOTES IN CAIRNS
Just add bling....the gravelly jazz tones of Louis Armstrong's grandson, Herb Armstrong was a treat for Cairns media this morning as he sang 'What a Wonderful World' accompanied by our very own Kirtley Leigh on violin and the brother and sister Elmslie duo from Cairns Big Band, Top Shelf. Direct from Bourbon Street to Cairns, Herb arrived to a sunny welcome for two concerts only - this Friday in Innisfail Shire Hall and Saturday at the Centre of Contemporary Arts....
